The Durham Harmonics is probably the liveliest and most fun choir in Durham! We sing and perform a wide variety of Pop songs, Jazz standards, ‘Great American Songbook‘ and Musical Theatre tunes – all in challenging four-part harmony! From Burt Bacharach to The Boy Friend, Gershwin to Godspell, Footloose to Frozen, we sing them all!
The choir usually performs about three or four concerts a year at various venues in and around Durham. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, 19.30-21.15 hrs, at Waddington Street United Reformed Church which is very close to the viaduct in town.
Nearly all of the songs which the choir sings are specially arranged for the group by its Musical Director, Yzen Eng. This makes the the repertoire of the Durham Hamonics completely unique for the North East!
Ability to read music is an advantage but not a necessity.
But it’s not all about the music because we like to socialise too! Apart from regular visits to the pub, we always organise a Christmas night out and our light-hearted end-of-year ‘Dinner and Awards’ evening is definitely not to be missed!
