Established in 2005, the Durham Harmonics is probably one of the liveliest and most fun choirs in Durham! We sing and perform a wide variety of Pop songs, Jazz standards, ‘Great American Songbook‘ and Musical Theatre tunes – all in challenging four-part harmony! From Burt Bacharach to The Boy Friend, Carpenters to Carousel, Gershwin to Godspell, we sing them all!
The choir usually performs about three or four concerts a year at various venues in and around Durham. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, 19.30-21.15 hrs.
Nearly all of the songs which the choir sings are specially arranged for the group by its Musical Director, Yzen Eng. Many of the songs are taken from the ‘Great American Songbook’ although a wide variety of other tunes are sung aswell. Ability to read music is an advantage but not a necessity.
But it’s not all about the music because we like to socialise too! Apart from occasional visits to the pub, we always organise a Christmas night out and our light-hearted end-of-year ‘Dinner and Awards’ evening is not to be missed either! So, if you enjoy singing in harmony and socialising too, the Durham Harmonics is the choir for you!
